Music & Memory

Music & Memory

NYC Health + Hospitals’ Music & Memory program helps patients and long-term care residents with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and other cognitive loss, reestablishing connection through music.

By providing patients with iPods with personalized playlists, Music & Memory demonstrates the powerful ability of music to enhance cognitive functioning, improve rehabilitation from brain injury, and reduce pain, agitation, anxiety, and reliance on medication. The program also relieves caregivers’ stress and fatigue. It is, as one family member noted, “almost a miracle.”
